Stand For Peace
On the eleventh day of the eleventh month at eleven o’clock, many of us around the world stand and remember in particular those that fought and died in the World Wars. Millions sacrificed their lives in pursuit of a better world, driven by ideals of freedom, justice, and peace. The last great war threatened the fundamental rights of individuals. Soldiers and civilians alike understood that their struggles were for the preservation of democratic values and human dignity. Many enlisted out of a deep sense of duty and the belief that they were fighting against tyranny to preserve democracy, the protection of vulnerable populations, and the hope of creating a more equitable world.
A significant manifestation of this hope was the establishment of the United Nations in 1945, aimed at fostering international cooperation and preventing future conflicts. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, emerged from the recognition of the need to protect individual rights and promote global peace.
We believe that something is deeply wrong in society. The better world for which people died is being dismantled. Our politicians boast of ridding us of the European Declaration of Human Rights as if these hard-fought rights are an albatross around their neck. The United Nations is embattled by countries we call allies and at times through the efforts of our own government.
Fascism is on the rise. Western governments are supporting a state accused of war crimes. Doctors return to the U.K and U.S and describe targeted killing of children, Aid Worker’s, Journalists, Hospital and Civilian Infrastructure are now legitimate targets as long as you have an excuse, no evidence is given or required. The war crimes gather pace emboldened by our lack of political will. To honour those that fought for a better world and for the sake of your children. the world really needs ordinary people to stand up and be counted before the tyrants drag us to a global war. Stand for Peace.
